Don’t get up from this seat. You can do this. I yelled at myself in my head. Every bone in my body, every hair follicle tensed and braced, anticipating a sprint.

I can’t run anymore. Not this time.

Round one: Not run. Yes i did it. I finally managed to stay where I am and not run away.

And then, round two came. It took every bit of courage and will power in me just to get myself to lift up my head, to tear my eyes away from my phone. Like a mimosa plant, I couldn’t, i just could not seem to open up my chest and look up, proudly.

Round three: Small talk. It wasn’t the hardest thing to do. Because I just babbled on. The toughest thing was to concentrate and answer the damned questions correctly while there’s a million questions flying around in my head.

how are you? what are you doing now? why? what happened?

i wanted so much to ask, “do you still remember?”

I wanted to say “look how much we’ve both grown.”

I wanted to say “you still look like what I always see in my dreams.”

I bury, i bury them all. Because these are meaningless.

Funny how the last time we met, we were still holding hands. who would have thought our next encounter would be years later at someone else’s wedding.

Being in such close distance with you triggered that 17 year old that’s still trapped somewhere inside of me. My body automatically wanted to sit a little closer, smile a little wider, get a little dizzier. I found myself leaving a space for you beside me when we were about to take a picture. Honestly i feel really really disappointed and embarrassed at myself for behaving like that. I thought I already knew better. Your presence felt familiar to someone in me. I was fighting a losing battle inside, to stop this person from coming out.
